From My Cold Dead Hands... to Yours

Yes, that's right, I'm actually digging something out of my closely held stash to give away. This is the first time it's ever happened and it may never happen again, so I recommend jumping on this possible one-time offer!
Oh, but first you must admire the baby blanket I finally finished! I started it in January and here it is June, all done. Oh, didn't I mention I started in January of 2008? Um, yeah. To distract you from that distressing amount of time, I chose a very charming model: Tiny's stuffed Mononucleosis. No, really. She got it as a gift. I suppose most people get it that way...Okay, you've been waiting patiently, so let's get the most exciting portion of this blog underway! I accidentally wound up with a second copy of the Yarn Harlot's Page-a-Day calendar. I just adore my copy--some days are funny, some are informative, some inspirational--but how many of the same calendar does a girl really need? So I figured I should give it to someone who really wants it. As it's already June, I wanna get this baby to you before even more of the year disappears.I'm also adding in three balls of Knit Picks Risata--that's a fingering weight cotton/wool/polyamide/elastic yarn, perfect for summertime knitting! I must confess I was probably seduced by the name of the colorway: Fairy Tale. They could have named it anything, really. Well, not green. Now this is open to anyone with a mailing address in the US or Canada. I know that's not fair, but I can't get Jane Brockett's giveaway acuz she's in the UK. No whining.
How to get in on the fun:
  1. Have a mailing address in the US or Canada.
  2. Leave a comment on THIS bog entry and tell me what you would call this yarn colorway. Disqualification for just saying purple. I mean, come on!
  3. Deadline to enter: June 12, midnight PST
  4. Then I'll contact the rapturous winner for their address and all will be joy. (PS: if I can't get ahold of you by June 19, I'm pulling another name. So there.)

And extra points to anybody who can tell me what this mysterious plant is that has invaded my front yard.

I would call that color "Bella's Blood." Because her blood would be pinker than anyone elses. And that thing in your front yard. It's called a WEED. ;P

First of your baby blanket is SMASHING! and darling all at the same time.

I would call it Snape stole my potion...but I get fanciful like that!

I love adopting out stash and I find that I actually tend to get things done with yarn adopted in (go figure). I hope whoever you adopt this yarn out to will make you as happy about the experience as some of my adopters have made me!

Love the blankie (and the point is that you finished it). Wish I had a stuffed mono when I had mono.

Names for the yarn:

1. Grapeful and Lusty

2. Grapetitude

Lovely blanket and the germ is beyond cute.

Don't actually enter me in this drawing because someone else surely deserves the goodies more than I. But I must submit this name for your consideration: "Cranberry Farts".

OK, that's reason enough not to pick me, I think. XD

How about Cran Razz, much like the juice Cran-rasberry. The plant is a mystery. Looks alot like a weed to me.... if you're in nevada, it would be baby sagebrush.

I'd have to say, I'd name this colorway "Heart's Blood"
Or maybe "plum's blood"

......but I could just be seeing that because I'm in a bad mood and ended up getting up early for no reason this morning

I would call it Raspberry Summer.

Do I get extra points if I tell you that I love your baby blanket (even if it did take you forever and a day to knit)? Oh, and can you guess that I came here from the Mean Girls Club by that comment?

Let's see - a colorway name - how about "Bloody Mary"

As for the weed - I have no clue!

I'm a little confused as the color on my monitor is a dark red not anything purplish. My recommended name would be tainted blood.

How about "Donny Osmond Sock Yarn"? Anyone else old enough to remember his purple socks? *LOL* Your baby blanket is just beautiful, and that stuffed mono germ thingie is adorable. I've never seen one of those!

Your mystery plant reminds me a little of Mom's moss roses, but looks a bit different.

Magenta Minefield.

This is my favorite color. I have so much of this color you'd think I'd get sick of it, but no, not so.

You finished your baby blanket? You're one up on me. The one I was making? The kid was 10 years old before I decided it was never going to happen. If I hadn't warped the ends and refused to do it over, I might have gotten it finished before he turned one, but you know, excuses, excuses. - madonnaearth (ravelry)

I would call it cranberry passion, or pomegranate burst...

something like that ;)

thanks for the contest!

I'd call that yarn "free-range wilderness", in honour of the new greens in your yard and the fact that I'm craving eggs. Can't say that makes any sense, but hey, it works for me!
Congratulations on your blanket :) I am now staring wistfully at an outfit I began before a friend's kid was born - the child is now 7. And a blanket I frogged for someone else's 2 year old... And the other blanket - oh, never mind. I'm hopeless.

I'm going for "The Prime of Miss AuberJean".

1. The baby blanket is adorable.
2. I would call it Sex in the City Cosmo.
3. It looks a little like asparagus fern

Ha ha -- love the Mono stuffie.

Something weird is going on here --- the yarn is totally reddish/pink on my screen...

I would call it: Crimson Tide...

guess what my son didn't get his baby blanket I was making for him and my second son was born 2.5 years later and still didn't get the damn thing until he was almost 1 so I totaly get the baby blanket thing! LOL Now I'm knitting a pair of "cargo" pants for a new baby in the family because I never made them for my now 4 yo! LOL
I failed Herbology so I'm no help with the invasion of the green plant thing.

I would call the yarn Yumberry. Congrats on getting the blankie finished, how big is the "baby" now? I think your plant is an asparagus fern too. And I'm in San Diego!

I think I'd call the colorway "Berry-stained fingers". Very pretty. Generous giveaway!

My mom has a weed in her yard that looks sort of like that. Not sure what it is.

I'd call it Green With Envy for Cranberry Colors.

I think that plant looks like dillweed. (heh, heh... dillweed)

And your blanket is lovely!

Sharon in Surrey said...

I love your blankie! I have one I started - according to my blog - 5 years ago for the man I gave the boot to a year & half ago. Someday, I will finish it!!
That sock yarn is "Menopause Purple"! Its the exact color your face turns when you have a power surge!
If your front yard is swampy, that plant my be a variety of papyrus.

ikkinlala said...

The yarn looks wine-coloured to me, so I'd call it Friday Night.

Your baby blanket is lovely (but the model is kind of creepy...).

Unknown said...

i would call it "wine knot". as for the plant, i have no clue.

Free Range Chick said...

The yarn kinda looks like it was dyed with grape juice, so I'll call it Grape Mustache On A 4 Year Old.

I feel you on the blanket taking forever. Some WIPs just don't get done right away.

I would call that Color "purple Rain."

I was thinking the colorway would be Cranlicious.

I had a co-worker who is a Master Gardener who used to live in California take a look. She thinks it might be Irish Moss that has taken up residence in your yard.
